An Easy Guide to Applying Window Decals for Retail Signage

Han Wang |

If you're a business owner or marketing manager looking for an effective way to get the word out about your store or product, window decals are an inexpensive and creative way to do just that. Window decals can help create a unique look for your storefront that will draw in customers, improve your visibility, and differentiate you from competing stores. Here's what you need to know about applying window decals for retail signage.

What You'll Need

Before you begin to apply your window decal, make sure that you have all of the necessary items on hand. Most importantly, you'll need the actual window decal itself – make sure that it is large enough so that it can be seen easily from the street. You'll also need a few other tools such as a squeegee (or old credit card), measuring tape, scissors or razor blade, and a drop cloth or paper towels.

Prepping the Surface

It's essential that you thoroughly clean and dry the surface before applying any decal. Any dirt or oil left on the surface can cause air bubbles in the vinyl which may lead to peeling and damage over time. Use alcohol-based glass cleaner and paper towels to ensure that there are no particles left behind on the glass surface. For best results, work in small sections at a time so that the cleaning solution does not have time to dry before wiping off with paper towels.

Applying The Decal

Once you've prepped your surface appropriately and let it dry completely, it's time to apply the decal! Begin by laying it out flat on your drop cloth or paper towels with its adhesive side up. Then take your measuring tape and mark off exactly where you want to place it on the glass using small pieces of masking tape as markers if needed. Once everything is lined up properly, start sticking down one corner of the decal at a time while slowly peeling away its backing paper layer at a time as well (this will make sure none of your design elements are stretched). As each section is applied, use either your squeegee or credit card to smooth out any air bubbles trapped underneath and ensure proper adhesion of vinyl onto glass surfaces. Repeat until entire design is applied then remove any remaining masking tape used for marking purposes earlier on.

Applying window decals for retail signage is easy once you have all of the necessary items at hand and understand how each step works together in order to achieve success! Prepping surfaces correctly beforehand will prevent air bubbles from forming while applying pressure during application helps keep everything stuck down nicely afterwards – just remember not too press too hard when using squeegees or credit cards though! With these tips in mind, go ahead and get started on creating beautiful storefront displays with window decals today!
